"Crow calls to awaken you to your true soul purpose,
to remind you to follow your heart."

do you trust your inner caw?

Navigating this world is complex, and in turn, learning to attune to your inner voice and trusting your

intuition is not as easy as it seems. Internal and external factors that are within as well

as outside of our control can breed beauty and opportunity, as well as pain and shame.

When life shakes us up and throws the unexpected our way, we might

lose a sense of connection to ourselves, our values, and our instinct.

At Sacred Crow Counseling and Consulting, I believe the art and mastery of wellbeing

begins with reacquainting oneself to mind, body, spirit, and gut.

Our brain is just one of the wisdom areas our body has to offer, but it is not the only source.

Oftentimes, our lived experience, relationships, and stressors cause us to run off course and away from ourselves.

When the unexpected throws of life happen, we might notice feeling scared, nervous, confused, or angry. But what do we do when we are swallowed and flooded by the world? Can we turn inward to harness our intuition similarly to how crows listen to its caw. By exploring and learning how to tap into the knowledge of

one’s heart, soul, stomach, as well as other sacred body areas, one can learn how the

past impacts the present, how thoughts and feelings related to the future

are influencing the now, and how to move through life feeling light, connected, and whole.

Counseling is a transformative process,

and allows someone to channel their most

adaptable, curious, and insightful self.

There are many symbols of transformation and change, and crows represent both of these things. Some believe that crows represent bad luck, but it is quite the opposite. Indigenous people believed that crows were cleaners of the mind, in that crows signify emotional and spiritual change.

Crows also symbolize intelligence, cleverness, teamwork and reciprocity, and psychic abilities, all of which resonate with the collaborative and adaptive process of therapy. The Celtic crow symbol stands for individuality, unapologetic esteem, and prophetic knowledge, which again echos themes in psychotherapy.

The Crow Connection

Crows are incredibly smart creatures, with a keen sense of observation and intuition, characteristics that many animals do not possess. Crows are very resourceful and can make a nest or tool out of just about anything.

They are protective birds, and guard their territories and nests...you can only imagine that those baby crows have incredibly secure attachment...*insert cheesy therapist joke*. Crows have increased activation of their forebrains, meaning that they are capable of cognitive functions on the same level as primates. Crows have incredible memories, and can even recognize human faces. Once you befriend a crow by feeding it and showing it love, it will never forget your friendly face and will most likely bring you gifts in return. Crows prefer to congregate in large crowds called a murder and communicate with one another using 250 different sounds.

Crows help one another stay safe by warding off predators as a team.

Crows are monogamous and mate for life, and are one of the few animals within their species

to show an emotional response to the death of a fellow bird.

Crows are magnificent and in so many ways mirror the beauties of humanity.

My name is Emily Dufrane, and I am the owner + operator of Sacred Crow Counseling and Consulting.

As a Person

I am clearly a fan of crows, lover of nature, and spiritual explorer. You can typically find me cuddling up with my kitties at home, sipping some hot tea with a good book, and jamming to folk, indie, and bluegrass music. I identify as a queer, cis, white, woman, and my pronouns are she/her. Other identities of importance to me are that I am pansexual, a daughter, a partner, a musician and creative, a highly sensitive person, a “recovered Catholic,” and a neurodivergent individual. I love to laugh and be silly, as well as taking delicate moments to cry and surrender. I am deeply emotional and use this strength in both my personal and professional life.

As a Professional

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and have been working in the mental health field for roughly 8 years. During my undergraduate career, I studied Psychology at Towson University, and later went on to receive my Master’s of Arts in Counseling Psychology in 2019. During the duration of my career in mental health, I have had the privilege of working in both in and out-patient settings along with partial hospitalization programs. Additionally, I previously worked at a local mental health crisis center and interned at a nonprofit organization for victims of intimate partner violence.

I provide trauma-competent and informed care when working with folkx 15+. I utilize a human-centered, eclectic, mind-body spirit perspective to support the healing process. I tend to work with people who identify as empaths and highly sensitive people, and love collaborating with clients creativity. I value celebrating and exploring identities and the complex + beautiful intersectionality of those aspects of self. Many clients come to see me because they feel stuck in old patterns, circumstances, or relationships, and are feeling ready to try something new and become reacquainted with their core self. I help people learn to regulate emotions using the wisdom of their mind and body using both top-down (cognitive based) as well as bottom-up (body based) skills and strategies. I like to use art, music, movement, and meditation to enhance my counseling practice. I am passionate and committed to approach my therapeutic work from a feminist and anti-racist lens.
