What is psychoTherapy?

Psychotherapy, often referred to as talk therapy or mental health counseling, is a collaborative process between you and a trained clinician. It's more than just talking. It’s about learning how to cope, process, and grow. Whether you're working through trauma, managing anxiety and depression, or exploring your identity, psychotherapy provides a supportive and nonjudgmental space to begin that work.

Encourages exploration of your thoughts, behaviors, and beliefs, helping you reconnect with your inner voice and values.

HEALING FROM TRAUMA & PAST EXPERIENCES

Supports the safe processing of unresolved trauma, attachment wounds, and childhood experiences that continue to affect you.

ENHANCED RELATIONSHIP SKILLS

Improves communication, sets healthy boundaries, and breaks cycles of conflict or disconnection in relationships.

REDUCTION IN ANXIETY & DEPRESSION

Guides you in identifying root causes and patterns behind anxiety or depression, and helps you find tools that work for you.

REINFORCING NEURAL FLEXIBILITY

Over time, psychotherapy can help the brain develop healthier, more adaptive pathways that support long-term emotional well-being.

My Approach TO Psychotherapy AT SACRED CROW cOUNSELING & cONSULTING

I draw from a range of evidence-based and trauma-informed modalities to support your specific needs. Therapy with me is never one-size-fits-all, it’s rooted in your unique story, strengths, and goals. Depending on what best supports your healing, we may integrate approaches like Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy techniques, narrative therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, depth-oriented relational work, and polyvagal-informed practices.

My intention is to help you not only understand what you’re feeling, but why, so you can build resilience, strengthen your sense of connection, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Psychotherapy is a powerful and flexible approach for addressing emotional pain, inner conflict, and patterns that keep you feeling stuck. Through conversation, insight, and the therapeutic relationship itself, therapy creates space for meaningful healing and growth.

It helps individuals struggling with anxiety by exploring the deeper roots of overwhelm, such as past experiences, perfectionism, or fear of failure, while offering tools for calming the mind and body. For those navigating depression, psychotherapy gently supports reconnection with emotions, motivation, and a renewed sense of purpose.

When trauma or unresolved grief is present, therapy can be a steady and safe space to process those memories and experiences without shame or urgency. It can also help clarify who you are outside of your roles, expectations, or past stories, supporting deeper self-acceptance and confidence.

In addition to individual concerns, psychotherapy can improve how you relate to others. Whether you're feeling misunderstood in relationships, repeating old patterns, or struggling to set boundaries, therapy helps you gain clarity, repair connection, and build healthier dynamics moving forward.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a psychotherapist vs therapist?

A psychotherapist is a type of therapist who uses talk therapy to treat emotional and mental health issues. The term “therapist” is broader and can include counselors, social workers, psychologists, or other professionals who offer different types of support, not just psychotherapy.

What is an example of psychotherapy?

An example of psychotherapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), where a therapist helps you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns to improve how you feel and act.

Who Can Benefit from psychotherapy?

Anyone struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, stress, or life transitions can benefit from psychotherapy. It’s helpful for people seeking personal growth, emotional healing, or support through difficult times.

sacred crow sliding scale offering

I want therapy—trauma-informed care, brainspotting, and psychedelic preparation/integration—to remain accessible while also honoring the energy, depth, and devotion I bring to this work. To support this balance, Sacred Crow uses a self-selected sliding scale based on the Green Bottle model (with gratitude to Worts and Cunning Apothecary for their teachings, available here.)

how to determine your ratE

Pay-it-Forward Tier: $250 – $200
For individuals with substantial financial security (savings, property, or financial stability). Choosing this tier supports community access for others.

Tier 2: $195 – $145
For individuals whose needs are met but who may feel stress around occasional discretionary expenses.

Tier 3: $150 – $125
For individuals with limited financial resources, living paycheck-to-paycheck, or experiencing financial instability.

My Role: I offer sessions on an hourly sliding scale ranging from $250-$125. This allows me to work with clients across varying financial situations while ensuring that the care I provide remains sustainable and accessible.

Your Role: You choose the rate that best reflects your current financial reality. The goal is for you to pay what you can comfortably afford based on your personal and family circumstances.

Our Role: Together, we will revisit our fee agreement periodically to ensure it still fits your situation as our circumstances evolve. Research shows that openly discussing finances and economic realities within therapeutic settings can deepen trust and improve outcomes (Arcuri, 2015; Thompson & Dvorscek, 2013; Field & Hemmings, 2007; Thompson, Cole, et al., 2012; Thompson, Graham, et al., 2017; Trott & Reeves, 2018).

A Note on Community Responsibility

By choosing the highest rate you can reasonably afford, you help nourish the health of this community, ensuring that care remains accessible to those who need lower-cost options. I trust each of you to choose with integrity and care. If you’re unsure what to do, you’re welcome to use the assessment tool linked here.
